Announcement: CURRENT STUDY ABROAD STATUS DUE TO COVID-19
As of September 9, 2020, international travel is banned at the Minnesota State University System level until further notice. Short term (including faculty-led and student club travel) and semester study abroad is cancelled through the spring 2021 semester.
We are currently accepting summer and fall 2021 applications for short term and semester programs. A decision on whether summer 2021 programs may travel will be made at the beginning of the spring 2021 semester. Students will be permitted to study abroad providing ALL of the following criteria are met: 1) the international travel ban at the university system level has been lifted 2) international travel is permitted by Winona State University 3) the host country where the student intends to travel is designated a level 1 or 2 by the U.S. State Department.
So why consider and apply for study abroad now when we aren't sure when international travel will be allowed? Now is a great time to research and start the application process so when the ban is lifted, you'll be ready to go! Summer 2021 faculty-led programs have application deadlines from December 2020 to February 2021; check the individual program page for the specific application deadline. Individual Summer 2021 programs have a February 1 deadline and individual Fall 2021 programs have a deadline of March 1. There is no financial commitment until the deadline. If travel is still not permitted at the time of the deadline, we are able to shift your application to a future term. By starting an application in our system, the Study Abroad office will send you updates regarding the status of study abroad and travel through WSU.
