The Business of Healthcare: A Comparison of Healthcare Systems in Paris | Faculty-led program

The Business of Healthcare program is an interprofessional faculty-led program in Paris designed in collaboration with the Colleges of Business and Nursing and Health Sciences. Because healthcare does not exist in a vacuum, this course brings together major aspects of 
Paris FLP art therapyhealthcare for a comparative study of how each interacts within the healthcare profession in an international context. Major topics include but are not limited to healthcare infrastructure including integrative health and public health, as well as nutrition, exercise, service, advertising, healthcare data analytics and other topics as needed.

Students must have the ability to walk 10,000-20,000 steps per day. Additionally, students must be able to navigate stairs in and out of the metro in an urban environment.

Winona State University is contracting with WorldStrides ISA to support this faculty-led program's logistics and support. As of January 1, 2022, WorldStrides ISA will require all participants to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 in order to participate.

PLEASE NOTE: Participation in this program requires a valid passport through at least November 24, 2022. If you do not have a valid passport or your passport is set to expire before this date, please apply for a passport immediately if you hope to participate in this program.

  • Required: HADM 376: Special Topics in Healthcare Administration (3 credits)
    • Counts as an upper-division elective for all College of Business majors and minors
    • Counts as an upper-division elective for all Nursing majors
    • May also count as an upper-division elective for other majors and minors. Talk to your academic advisor to learn more. 
  • Optional Independent Study in BUSA or NURS: 3 credits may be available from your major
    • Taking the optional independent study for 3 credits as part of this program will bring students to 6 credits in the summer term.   •  Upper division students in the College of Business and the College of Nursing and Health Sciences 

  • Range from $4,800 - $5,700 depending on enrollment min/max.
  • The program cost includes: WSU tuition/fees for 3 credits for HADM 376, roundtrip airfare, transportation throughout the duration of the program, most meals, all lodging, admission & event fees for group educational experiences, international health insurance for the duration of the time in Paris, and the Study Abroad Administrative Fee. 
  • The $500 deposit required as part of the program application is applied toward the final program cost. 
  • Scholarship Information
    • The BUSA department values and supports students who desire to have an international study abroad experience related to their major. As such, the BUSA department graciously offers a scholarship in the amount of 10% of the total cost of the program up to $500 for all students who participate in this program. 
  • PLEASE NOTE: If you are granted permission to enroll in both courses associated with this program (HADM 376 and independent study), your total cost may be higher than the range above to take into consideration the cost of tuition and fees for the additional 3 credits for the independent study.

  • Application Deadlines
    • December 1, 2021 at 4pm: Priority deadline. Students will be accepted on a rolling basis. Priority will be given to students who have complete applications and paid the $500 confirmation deposit. Students will be interviewed prior to acceptance for the program. 
    • February 1, 2022 at 4pm: Final application deadline. Complete applications and a $500 confirmation deposit are due to be considered for this program. Any application that remains incomplete will be withdrawn after this deadline.
  • February 13, 2022: If you are accepted for the program and withdraw after this date you are financially responsible for the full cost of the program regardless of participation.
    • NOTE: This deadline is 90 days prior to the start of the program. As detailed in the Eligibility and Cancellation Policies document students must review and electronically sign as part of the application for this program, students may individually and independently purchase Cancel for Any Reason (CFAR) insurance when planning for this study abroad program. Study Abroad will not advise on CFAR policies, nor endorse a particular company/policy. The WSU Study Abroad Cancellation Policies will be enforced uniformly regardless of a student’s purchase of CFAR insurance.
  • April 23, 2022: Full payment for the program is due by this date. If you can show you have summer financial aid/private loans to cover your outstanding balance for the program, you will be allowed to participate even with a balance as of April 23, 2022.
