Excursions & Activities

  • Embark on a two-night/three-day study tour to a different region, like the winelands and coast areas of the Western Cape, or Sutherland in the Northern Cape Province, where the largest single optical telescope in the southern hemisphere, SALT, is located. Soak up culture and history with visits to iconic places like Robben Island, the Cape Peninsula, and Cape Flats.
  • Catch a cricket or rugby match at Newlands Grounds, go on a whale-watch, or explore museums and local theatre and music.
  • Engage with local community organisations by tutoring, mentoring, or volunteering your time – students say it's a program highlight.

CIEE has many scholarships specific to their programs, including merit-based and need-based scholarships. Check out their Scholarships page for more information.

Budget Information:
To calculate an estimate of the total cost of your program, use the Cost Estimate Template and do the following:
1. Go to the CIEE website https://www.ciee.org/, fill in the blanks to find your program, and search.
2. Select your program to “learn more”. Once you are at the main page of your program, select “See Full Breakdown” next to the price. The “No Hidden Fees” section maps out the price per term. This is this cost of tuition and housing.
3. Click on the plus sign next to the price to view a breakdown along with estimated additional costs including flight, meals, visa, and personal expenses.
4.  In addition to this program fee, add the following costs to arrive at your total cost
 
  • Application fee - $65
  • Study Abroad Administrative fee - $460
  • WSU Laptop fee (semester students only) - $485
  • Passport ($140) and Visa, (if required, cost varies per country)
