As of January 25, 2021, international travel is banned at Winona State University until further notice.  Short term (including faculty-led and student club travel) and semester study abroad is cancelled through the summer 2021 term.

A decision on whether fall 2021 programs are approved for travel will be made in the summer.  Students will be permitted to study abroad providing ALL of the following criteria are met: 1) the international travel ban at the Minnesota State System level has been lifted 2) international travel is permitted by Winona State University 3) the host country where the student intends to travel is designated a level 1 or 2 by the U.S. State Department.

So why consider and apply for study abroad now when we aren't sure when international travel will be allowed? Now is a great time to research and start the application process so when the ban is lifted, you'll be ready to go! There is no financial commitment until the deadline and many programs have generous cancellation and refund policies. If travel is still not permitted at the time of the program deadline, we are able to shift your application to a future term. By starting an application in our system, the Study Abroad office will send you updates regarding the status of study abroad and travel through WSU.
